Telescope S.A. can now offer Astro Tours in the following areas, Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape and Sutherland in the Karoo home of the Sutherland Astronomical Obsevatory and the S.A.L.T. telescope (The largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere). Nieuwoudtville is situated at the top of the Bokkeveld mountains, surrounded within a radius of 15 miles by four different vegetation areas: the Hantam, Bushmanland, the Knersvlakte and Namaqualand. When leaving the top of Vanrhyn's Pass, the vegetation changes to Cape Fynbos. However, within another 12 miles, it changes to succulent- Karoo. The spring flowers include many rare bulbs unique to the area and scientists from all over the world visit the reserve. It is also called "The Bulb Kingdom of the World". Both sites offer dark skies free of light pollution, first rate accomodation, as well as a host of interesting sights to see during the day. Paul Dogon will be your Astro Tour Guide in Nieuwoudtville, and Jurg Wagenar will show you the night sky from Sutherland. Jurg offers excellent accomodation at reasonable rates,while accomodation in Nieuwoudtville will be in one of the many Bed and Breakfast establishments both in and on the outskirts of town.
