Star Charts/ Downloads
Starcharts are a list of
ever-changing maps which are specific to your geographic location, time of
year and the current season.
Hence the difficulty in obtaining accurate, up-to-the-minute maps of your
particular region.
We have, however, seen the following programs that do a pretty damn good job!
|
CHRIS MARRIOTT SKYMAP PRO |
|
| Chris Marriott, at Skymap, has thankfully developed a real gem of a program which plots an accurate map of the stars that is relevant for anywhere in the world - any time of year. You simply supply your co-ordinates and current date/ time and the program generates a fantastic view of the night sky for that region! This program is an absolute must for the astronomer and will assist you with all your future stargazing activities. |

JOHN WALKER'S HOME PLANET |
|
| This program is excellent for tracking stars, planets and also satellites. Provides accurate starcharts as well. |

REDSHIFT by MARIS |
|
| A real beauty of a home multi-media planetarium. Fantastic video clips, information, starcharts and picture gallery. Unfortunately this program is not free- or shareware so cannot be downloaded from here. |

STARRY NIGHT BACKYARD |
|
| Excellent for learning the night sky. Great animations and 'Stellar Travel'. Its quite large (so be patient with the download) and requires Apple Quicktime (available below). Also Requires registration from Starry Night, but a 15-day trial license is available. |
